About
Tuesday, April 14, 2026, 7:30 – 9 pm For more than half a century, Charles McPherson has been one of jazz's most expressive and enduring voices. Grounded in the blues and bebop tradition, he has shaped generations with his bold tone and unmistakable style. From Detroit's vibrant scene to twelve formative years with Charles Mingus, McPherson built a legacy as a master saxophonist, composer, and educator. His acclaimed albums, including Reverence and Jazz Dance Suites, highlight his soulful swing and fearless improvisation. A 2026 Jazz Legacies Fellowship winner, he now brings his artistry to NMAAHC. The evening features a conversation between McPherson and Dr. Steven Lewis, Curator of Music and the Performing Arts. Join us for an unforgettable night with a true bebop legend!
